Description

LootWorks creates first person 3D casual games with an innovative game engine that is fun for both casual and expert players. LootWorks' premier title is Epic Swords, an action sword fighting game with intuitive swipe controls, powerful magic swords and amazing special attacks. Epic Swords is simple to play but can challenge even expert gamers with layered combat strategy and complex inventory puzzles. LootWorks' game engine balances the game by adjusting opponent AI behavior and skills, rather than just accelerating to super-human twitch speeds.

History

Early history

LootWorks was founded by Mike Kelley, Eric Klein and Ben Boos, all experienced game developers. Mike was a 3D and mobile hacker from Palm, SGI and Apple, Eric a marketing and game wizard from Bungie and Apple, and Ben the renowned graphic designer of Diablo II and books including Swords: An Artist's Devotion. Ben's books provide characters and weapons used in the Epic Swords title.

Facebook and bubbles (not the sword upgrade!)

LootWorks originally planned to launch a Facebook 3D Flash game. Mike: "It was briefly easy to raise money to build Facebook games. But 3D in Flash was limited, Facebook game virality dropped when they tightened sharing rules, and it was clear the game experience was limited by the platform." LootWorks impaled the Flash project on its own low polygon count sword.

Mobile

With mobile 3D performance skyrocketing, LootWorks could target a rich, emersive FPS 3D experience. LootWorks decided to launch on Android. At the time Android was considered a distant second to iOS for monetization, but LootWorks was looking forward. Mike: "We wanted to target the largest installed base, and we felt there was huge opportunity for companies who could crack the monetization challenge on Android."

Our Vision: First Person Casual 3D

LootWorks is driven to bring the rich 3D graphics and cinematic first person play experience of high-end FPS to casual games. The founders' experience at Apple and Palm is reflected in simple, streamlined game controls that can be learned in a minute, but scale to intense real-time combat. All games are freemium and play seamlessly from phone to tablet.
